On February 7, President Freddy Boey of City University of Hong Kong, President S. Joe Qin of Lingnan University, and their delegation visited COSCO SHIPPING (Hong Kong), accompanied by Chairperson Michael Ngai of the Council of City University and Chairperson Andrew Yao Cho-fai of the Council of Lingnan University. They engaged in discussions with Chairperson Qin Weizhong and President Zhu Changyu of COSCO SHIPPING (Hong Kong).
Qin Weizhong welcomed Freddy Boey, S. Joe Qin, and their visiting delegation, introducing the business sectors of China COSCO SHIPPING Corporation Limited, the cultivation of new quality productive forces, technological innovation, and the development of strategic emerging industries such as digital intelligent shipping services and green new energy for ships. He noted that City University of Hong Kong and Lingnan University, as leading and internationally renowned higher education institutions in Hong Kong, continuously cultivate outstanding talents with innovative capabilities for society. He expressed hope to leverage the research strengths and talent advantages of both universities to further innovate the model of university-enterprise cooperation, promote high-level talent exchanges, and deepen the integration of industry, university, and research. This would help transform more research outcomes into new quality productive forces and jointly advance the digitalization, greening, and intelligence of the shipping industry, significantly contributing to the construction of Hong Kong as an international shipping center.
Zhu Changyu presented the development plans of China COSCO SHIPPING Corporation Limited in four strategic emerging industries: global digital supply chains, green low-carbon intelligent ship development, new energy for ships, and smart shipping. He expressed hope to build a high-level technology innovation cooperation platform with the two universities, tackle key core technologies jointly, and promote industrial transformation and upgrading together.
Freddy Boey and S. Joe Qin introduced the features of their respective institutions, research achievements, and talent cultivation. They emphasized that university-enterprise cooperation is an inevitable trend for the deep integration of education and industry and looked forward to proactively aligning with industry and enterprise needs, establishing a long-term communication and cooperation mechanism with COSCO SHIPPING (Hong Kong), and fully leveraging their respective advantages. They aimed to conduct in-depth cooperation in research collaboration, platform building, and talent cultivation, promoting collaborative innovation between industry, university, and research, thereby empowering the high-quality development of the shipping industry and jointly contributing to the new development of Hong Kong towards prosperity.
