On 31st August, COSCO SHIPPING International’s volunteer team participated in a visiting activity namely “Mid-autumn Giving Love Visit”, organised by a non-profit social organisation namely Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council (“NAAC”). This promoted COSCO SHIPPING International’s volunteerism of passion to serve the community.

The visit started at 9:30am. COSCO SHIPPING International’s volunteer team, comprising 41 members, divided into 11 teams. They carried festive mooncakes, fruits and other necessities to pay visit to 29 old persons living alone and together in Tai Hung Tung Estate, according to the designated instructions. They showed care to the elderly and collected their feedback for the social workers to follow up.

During the visit, the volunteers learnt that most of the elderly were very old. They earned their living for decades and enjoyed a quiet and simple life. Their children had their own livelihood and they hoped to have someone to accompany with them, even a simply chat comprising caring and comfort. The volunteers also learned a lot from the elderly’s stories. They truly felt more blessed to give than to receive.

The visit activity was organised by Sham Shui Po District Elderly Community Centre of NAAC, which is a local social service centre offering diversified services for the elderly. Since 2011, COSCO SHIPPING International had collaborated with the centre and sent its volunteer team in the festive seasons and the winter to visit the elderly. Until now, a total of 2,340 volunteer hours were serviced and a number of 621 elderly benefited.
