On 22nd October 2017, COSCO SHIPPING International sent 55 employees and their family members, totaling 13 teams, to participate in its sponsored event, “Sowers Action Challenging 12 Hours 2017” charity marathon organised by the non-profit charity organization, Sowers Action. This was the tenth consecutive year that COSCO SHIPPING International supported the event.

It was a nice day. To raise funds for the students in the mountainous area, a total of 55 participants of COSCO SHIPPING International set off at the main dam of Shing Mun Reservoir in Kowloon. Along with the beautiful scenery, the hiking trail has continuous uphill sections and rough track in the forest. The end point was in a secondary school in Tai Po. The total distance was 12km. All participating teams completed the races within the designated time, in which two Open Teams won the 1st runner-up and the 6th place respectively. This fully demonstrated the corporate citizenship of team spirit and passion in charity of the Company’s staff.

“Sowers Action Challenging 12 Hours” charity marathon is an annual fund-raising charity walk held by Sowers Action, and it has been held for 18 years. The aim of the activity is to enable the participants experience the hardship of the students in the mountainous regions in China, who pursue their studies by walking several hours every day to school. In the meantime, they raise fund to help improve the education condition there. Sowers Action has launched the program of “Children´s Home” in 2010, which aimed to provide basic living care and growth guidance to orphans and children in need, so that children can grow in a safe and warm environment.

COSCO SHIPPING International spares no effort in social charitable activities, particularly the Company concurs with the Sowers Action’s belief of ‘Education is the key to eradicating poverty’. Therefore, COSCO SHIPPING International has been consistently sponsoring the charitable event of Sowers Action’ Challenging 12 Hours for 10 years and directly subsidizing the students in poverty in Mainland China to complete their studies. Until now, a total of 358 person times were recorded and more than 700 students from Sichuan, Yunnan and Gansu provinces had benefited. In future, COSCO SHIPPING International continues to cooperate with Sowers Action to make contribution in nurturing the future pillars of the country.
