On 24th March 2014, a grand ceremony for commencement of construction of a new plant of COSCO Kansai Paint & Chemicals (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “COSCO Kansai”) was held in Shanghai Jinshan Industrial Zone II. The attended guests included Mr. Zhang Liang, Vice Chairman of COSCO International, Mr. Hiroshi Ishino, President of Kansai Paint Co. Ltd, Mr. Shen Huadi, Deputy District Mayor of Jinshan District, Mr. Xu Zhengjun, Managing Director of COSCO International and Chairman of COSCO Kansai, as well as other executives from both shareholders, government officials from various bureaus of Jinshan Industrial Zone II, and the management and employee representatives of COSCO Kansai.

Kansai Paint’s President Mr. Hiroshi Ishino briefly reviewed the history of cooperation between Kansai Paint and COSCO Group for the past twenty years. As one of the shareholders, Kansai Paint not only had confidence towards the prospect of the future cooperation between both parties, but also pinned his hope on China’s economic development in the future.

President Zhang Liang extended his ardent hope for COSCO Kansai’s future development, and encouraged the constructors of COSCO Kansai’s new plant in Shanghai to continue their efforts in his address. This imparted great motivation to the builders of the new plant.

COSCO Kansai’s new plant in Jinshan District of Shanghai is the coatings production base invested by both of its shareholders, COSCO International Holdings Ltd. and Kansai Paint Co. Ltd. It covers a total area of over 90 acres, with a designed annual maximum production capacity of 75,000 tonnes. The new plant will extend and improve the original technology and production processes at the old plant in Baoshan District. It will further strengthen COSCO Kansai’s competitive edge in the regions of Pan Bohai Rim, Yangtze River Delta, and Pearl River Delta, and enhance its leadership in China’s container coatings and industrial anti-corrosion coatings market.
