On 30th June and 7th July 2010, a total of 39 staff of the holding company of COSCO International and its subsidiaries in Hong Kong attended one-day Fire Safety Ambassador training course organised by the Fire Services Department respectively. All participating staff passed the test of the Fire Safety Ambassador and they were appointed by the Hong Kong Fire Services Department as the Fire Safety Ambassadors.

Mr. Wang Xiaodong, Managing Director of COSCO International, said, “We always adhere to the principle of “Safe Development” with the mission of “Safety First, Prevention Top Priority and Integrated Management”. This year, COSCO International has continued to carry out the programme of the “Year of Safe Production”. We have organised various safety training activities to further enhance our staff awareness on safety, health and environmental protection. We are honored to obtain the assistance of the Fire Services Department to provide our staff with fundamental training on fire prevention and dealing with emergency, so as to enhance their knowledge on fire safety and abilities to tackle any contingency issues, which may help them rescue themselves and others’ lives. The training not only further enhances the building up of a safety culture in the company, but also reflects our corporate spirit of valuing every staff’s life and health.”

The Fire Safety Ambassador is a scheme run by the Fire Services Department since 1997. The scheme aims to provide the participants with basic fire protection training so as to arouse their awareness on fire safety and to enrich their fire safety knowledge. Participants of the scheme should receive one-day Fire Safety Ambassador training course. During the course, they attend fire safety seminars, learn how to use various fire installations and equipment, visit fire stations as well as inspect fire services equipment in buildings, etc. Participants will become Fire Safety Ambassadors after passing a test at the end of the course. Until now, the total number of Fire Safety Ambassadors and Trainers has been more than 80,000.
